Eric has been an educator for 50 years, the last 35 at Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, where he teaches visual art and a philosophy course called, “Life’s Big Questions”. He has offered many professional development workshops to schools across the United States including: The Practices of Critical Friendship and Courage to Teach workshops based on the work of Parker Palmer. He is a long-time practitioner and teacher of meditation and has introduced mindfulness practices to his high school students at Packer. Alongside his work as a sculptor, Eric is a poet and lyricist. In addition to the many songs he has written for the Packer community, he created “Time for a Tuneup: Songs to Help Teachers Make it Through the Year,” a monthly column which was featured for five years on the Education World website. The humor that runs through his poems and songs is evident in his visual art as well. During the school year, Eric lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Beth. He spends his summers writing poetry and cultivating his many gardens in upstate NY.
